Excelsior is on track to get a grocery store after the Excelsior City Council voted to support the project.
The approval paves the way for Minnetonka-based Oppidan Investment Co. to open a grocery store at the former Mason Motors site on Water Street.
In addition to the grocery store, Oppidan plans to build more than 10,000 square feet of retail space at 400 Water St., which is on the corner of George and Water streets.
"We're excited that we got the nod to move forward," said Joe Ryan, president of Oppidan Investment Co.
The approval for the development came after three hours of discussion at the council's May 7 meeting. The City Council approved the plans unanimously. Monday, May 14, 2012

Instead it adopted an ordinance that makes it a misdemeanor to give false information to hotel clerks.
The majority of the council members opposed requiring hotel guests to show a photo ID after representatives from the hotel community stated it would be a burden to their staff and guests.
