Sparklers burn at more than 2,000 degrees F. They are not a toy. When I was a kid in either 1949 or 1950 in Chicago, four other kids placed a sparkler in an empty turpentine can. It blew like shrapnel killing three of them and blinding the fourth.
Just recently one of the fireworks allowed by a law pushed by former Gov. Ventura caused a fire that put many people out on the street when their building burned.
Even professionals worry about fireworks. Not too many years ago one such person died when fireworks on a barge failed to go off. When the worker went on a boat to check why, they blew, killing him.
All fireworks should be banned for public usage. They are nice to watch but too dangerous to handle.

Foursome
To the Editor:
When our family moved to Minnesota in 1955 to operate The Foursome it was a small community general store, selling everything from fabric to work boots. Through time and putting our customers first we have been blessed to become one of America's largest independent specialty clothing stores. In gratitude, we have always focused on trying to benefit the community we serve, by volunteering in civic organizations, donating money and merchandise to various charities or just lending a hand to those in need. These are the values we will continue to pursue as we open a new chapter in our business.
It's with a mixture of excitement and a sense of sadness that we recently announced The Foursome will be leaving the Wayzata Bay Center and opening a new store in Plymouth. For five challenging years we have diligently worked to continue to remain an anchor retailer in the redeveloped Wayzata Bay Center, but delays and phasing changes due to the economic downturn have forced us to seek a more immediate alternative. We explored a lot of options, including staying in Wayzata, and have found a wonderful new location on Vicksburg Lane just north of Highway 55 in Plymouth where The Foursome will move this fall.
We will continue to be a vital part of the greater Lake Minnetonka community since our new store is only a few miles away. The move also accomplishes our long-term goal of having all of our merchandise under one roof and providing our customers a much more convenient shopping experience.
I want to assure our long time customers that our new location will still feature many of the same friendly faces and quality merchandise they have come to know and enjoy over the years. Our customers will still find the finest men's clothing, accessories, and family shoes at competitive prices. Most importantly, our customers and greater Lake Minnetonka area residents should know we remain committed to making our community the best it can possibly be.
I hope to see all of you in our new store. Until then, we will be having a giant moving sale that will be reminiscent of our famous Foursome "crazy days" sales. I know some of you may have questions about the move and our decision to leave Wayzata. As always, you can call me or stop into my office and I will be happy to talk.
Thank you for your support and 74 memorable years in Wayzata. We look forward to our continued relationship with this wonderful community.
