From the Notebook: Boys Soccer

The Minnetonka boys' soccer team is off to a 3-1-1 start after victories over Chaska (2-0), Roseville (1-0) and Grand Rapids (2-0), a 1-1 tie against Northfield, and a

3-2 loss to Minneapolis Southwest. Senior Tyler Stanford scored the game-winning goal in the team's victory over Roseville on Aug. 29. Seniors Nick Abrahamson and Jerry Rausch each found the back of the net in the Skippers' victory over Grand Rapids on Aug. 31. The Skippers have three games at home this week including Shakopee on Tuesday, Sept. 8, Wayzata on Thursday, Sept. 10 and Bloomington Jefferson on Saturday, Sept. 12.

The Wayzata boys' soccer team posted a 1-2-1 record through its first four games. After a 2-0 loss to Eden Prairie in their season opener, the Trojans rebounded to defeat a talented St. Paul Central team by an

identical 2-0 score. The team then fell 2-1 to Elk River on Tuesday, Sept. 1, before posting a 1-1 tie against Minneapolis South on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Trojans will face a stern test on Tuesday, Sept. 8 when they host Armstrong at 7 p.m.

The Hopkins boys' soccer team has posted a 2-1-1 record through four games against tough competition. The Royals have perhaps turned some heads recently after defeating a quality Minneapolis South team 2-1

on Tuesday, Sept. 1, and then tying a top five team in Osseo 2-2 on Thursday, Sept. 3. Hopkins sophomore Austin Salargo scored a goal in each of the Royals'

victories so far this season. Sophomore Christian Abundis tallied three assists in the team's first three games. The Royals will open up their Classic Lake Conference schedule this week when they host Edina on Tuesday, Sept. 8 before traveling to Armstrong on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The Orono boys' soccer team is off to a blazing 4-0 start after victories over Maple Grove (2-0), Glencoe-Silver Lake (5-2), Meadow Creek Christian (1-0), and most recently St. Michael-Albertville (3-1) on Thursday,

Sept. 3. Sophomore Willy Semsch got the Spartans' season off on the foot when he scored both of his team's goals in their season opener against Maple Grove on Aug. 27. The Spartans will look to remain undefeated this week when they travel to St. John's Prep on Thursday, Sept. 10.

The Blake boys' soccer team went 1-0-1 in its first two matches last week. After defeated Minneapolis Washburn on Tuesday, Sept. 1, the Bears and St. Bernard's fought to a scoreless tie on Thursday, Sept. 3. The Bears will host St. Paul Academy on Tuesday, Sept. 8 and Minnehaha Academy on Thursday, Sept. 10.
