Members of the 2008-09 Hopkins High School Trap Shooting Club recently took first place honors at the Minnesota State Trap Shooting Championship, which was conducted in Alexandria on July 11. The squad of five represented the 45-member Hopkins club in the Scholastic Clay Target Division.
The squad broke a total of 915 targets during the event. Club member Tanner Hilgers had a club record and personal best of 75 straight targets. This is the first Hopkins team to take first place honors in a state competition.
Club members are coached by Mark Czech, Hopkins High School music instructor. Czech started the first high school trap shooting club in Minnesota in 2005.
