Plymouth firefighters had a busy Friday morning when they responded to a four-alarm apartment fire at Vicksburg Village Apartments.
The call came in around 4 a.m. on July 12 at the apartment located on Rockford Road and Vicksburg Lane. The fire was sustained to one of the five buildings in the complex. That building, which has 62 units, was evacuated.
Plymouth Fire Chief Richard Kline said the fire was advanced when firefighters arrived.
There were no resident or firefighter injuries reported. Of the 62 units, six to eight units sustained heavy fire and water damage and those families will be displaced long term, according to Kline.
There were no sprinklers in the building, but the building was in full compliance, Kline said. There was no requirement for that building to have sprinklers at the time of its construction.
"If had been [sprinkled], it would have been a much, much smaller fire," Kline said.
The origin of the fire is believed to have been on a third floor exterior balcony, according to Kline. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
