11/26/2012 3:31:00 PM Plymouth Fire Department names poster contest winners
Sammie Corning, a fifth-grade student at Plymouth Creek Elementary School, won the grand prize in the Plymouth Fire Department's annual fire prevention poster contest. Corning's poster was chosen from the entries submitted by students in four elementary schools. The poster featured Sparky the Fire Dog providing "two ways out" tips to help keep families safe.
In winning this contest, Corning earned a ride to school in a fire truck and a $25 cash prize from the Plymouth Crime and Fire Prevention Fund. Corning's poster will go on to compete at the regional level.
In addition to the grand prize award, one first-place winner was selected from each Plymouth elementary school that participated in the contest. Emma Ryan, a student in Mrs. Harrington's fourth-grade class, was the first-place school winner at Providence Academy; Cameryn Bailey, a student in Mrs. Rubin's fourth-grade class, was the first-place school winner at Zachary Lane Elementary School; Breda Christensen, a student in Ms. Katzmarek's fourth-grade class, was the first-place winner at Oakwood Elementary.
The first place winners will receive a $15 check from the Plymouth Crime and Fire Prevention Fund. In addition, Plymouth firefighters will visit all winners' classrooms with frozen treats. The winning posters can be viewed at www.plymouthmn.gov.
