The Foursome, a long-running Wayzata business, will be moving to Plymouth this fall.
The retailer has been an anchor tenant in Wayzata Bay Center, where retail stability has suffered after the recession led to a delay in the redevelopment of the mall.
The clothing and shoe stores that operate in different locations in the Bay Center will be moving to one location in a newly constructed building at Highway 55 and Vicksburg Lane.
"After considerable thought and discussion it became clear our best business plan for the future is to consolidate our stores under one roof and move to this new location," said Foursome President Gordy Engel, in a prepared statement. "The opportunity to stay close to Wayzata and be part of this vibrant area in the heart of Plymouth is exciting."
Previously, The Foursome had been expected to take up shop in a redeveloped Bay Center. But construction had been delayed a year until late 2010.
Trying to predict what happens to Bay Center retailers in the interim has been like shooting ducks at a carnival.
Short term leases are being offered for businesses looking to rent space in the mall, while other tenants remain in business there.
"For the past five years we have worked faithfully to continue to be an anchor retailer in the redeveloped Wayzata Bay Center, but delays and phasing changes due to the economic downturn have forced us to seek a more immediate alternative," Engel stated.
In preparation for a July 15 Crazy Days-style moving sale, the store planned to close temporarily the two days prior.
The Foursome has been in business in Wayzata for 74 years.
