The seven candidates who are running for the Minnetonka City Council participated in a forum hosted by the League of Women Voters on Jan. 25.
The city will be holding a special election Tuesday, Feb. 14 to fill a vacant At-Large council seat.
The candidates running for the seat are Patty Acomb, Joe Bodell, Bonnie Burton, John Knight, Peggy Kvam, Thom Lien and Joel Olson.
David Webb's name will be on the ballot, but he is no longer seeking election.
The forum, which drew a crowd of about 75 people, gave the candidates a chance to introduce themselves to voters and gave voters an opportunity to ask them questions. Monday, January 30, 2012

After several months of discussion and research, the Lake Minnetonka Conservation District on Jan. 25 opted to replace a milfoil harvester that was totaled when it capsized last July.
The purchase, which will cost nearly $175,000, will keep LMCD's fleet at three harvesters.
Replacing the harvester has two main benefits. It provides the tools to move forward on milfoil harvesting this year, and it takes advantage of the insurance money, said Chris Jewett, LMCD board member.
In replacing the harvester, the insurance company gives the LMCD about twice as much, or nearly $65,000, versus selling it.
Orono boys' basketball head coach Barry Wohler knew this season wasn't going to mirror last season when the Spartans finished the year on top with Class 3A state championship medals around their necks. But after a tough start, things seem to be turning in the right direction.
"We have so many new faces. The first half of the year was tough," Wohler said. "We were kind of a woulda, coulda, shoulda team. We had a lot of close games where we led, but couldn't finish it off."
The Spartans started the season 1-10 in their first 11 games, but have showed some life lately by winning three of their last four in the Wright County Conference. Monday, January 30, 2012

The private golf club, which is located in Independence, had been having financial troubles.
On Dec. 15, the Star Tribune reported that the golf club, although it had not declared bankruptcy or officially entered the foreclosure process, would close because it was insolvent.
Now, just one month later, the course has been saved. Monday, January 30, 2012
Planning for the redevelopment is in the early stages
With Walgreens as its anchor for redevelopment, Semper Development, based in Minneapolis, requested a comprehensive plan amendment to rezone the area so Walgreens and other retail space could be built at the intersection of Commerce and Lynwood boulevards.
Currently that intersection has vacant buildings, a couple of retail businesses and two apartment buildings.
The amendment requested the area change from high-density residential to pedestrian mixed-use district. (1 comments) Monday, January 30, 2012
